Donna Greenfield began teaching aerobic dance at CVAC in 1989. She was certified in mat pilates in 1997 and started the first classes at the club the same year. In 2005 she was trained and certified in reformer pilates and introduced this form of exercise to CVAC in September of that year. She teaches 3 mat pilates classes each week and reformer sessions (privates, duets and groups) most days. For many years she studied ballet, jazz, modern and Thai dance. This was great training for understanding, as a teacher, the muscle tone, flexibility, stability, balance, strengthening and posture which is special about pilates work.
She is Californian born and bred, but also lived in Bangkok, Thailand, for two years during her junior and senior years of high school. Also, Seoul, Korea for 1 year where she worked as a journalist for the Hangkuk Ilbo (Korean Times). Her father was a Fulbright Scholar in both countries. She graduated with a BA at the University of Southern California (USC).
After graduating from USC she moved to Carmel and was hired by radio station, KLRB FM, as an on air rock and roll disc jockey. She was also put in charge of writing, producing and editing commercials.
She worked many years at Carmel River School (while also teaching classes at CVAC) teaching movement to grades K – 5. She also directed and choreographed many musicals for River School's 5th grade classes, directed and choreographed for Ariel Theater in Salinas and currently teaches theater classes at Tularcitos School in Carmel Valley and SoDA (School of Performing Arts) in Carmel. For 3 months every year she teaches dance to River School’s student population for their annual May Festival.
