CVAC was originally founded by Peter Paxton who at the time called it the Carmel Valley Racquet Club. Peter owned an athletic- tennis club in Traverse City in the Lake Tahoe area. He was asked by several members to come out to Carmel and build another club. He began to look for property. . When he was trying to decide on the correct location he decided to spend the day there on a log in the sun to choose the land with the most favorable conditions. After spending the day at the current location of CVAC he chose it to be his future club. It was just beyond the fog line so it was mostly sunny and it's proximity to the Ocean kept it just the right temperature for sports. He built this club in 1968 at the height of the tennis boom. As you can see there were many tennis events and visitors from all walks of life. It has been the intent of the current ownership to bring CVAC back to it's original splendor. CVAC is not just an athletic club it's a community where friends meet.
More than ever we are dedicated to bringing you the finest facilities and many social activities that bring together our members. CVAC is not only a workout facility it is also a community where members also enjoy the community of others.
At CVAC we have members who have been here from the beginning. In fact two of these ladies remember joining before there was even a building. It is wonderful to have them.
